De beroemde Italiaanse architect Renzo Piano kreeg de opdracht om het gebouw weer een nieuwe functie te geven._**Duik in de Egiptische geschiedenis bij het Museo Egizio**_Het Museo Egizio is een van de meest bezochte bezienswaardigheden van de stad. Het museum neemt je mee op een tijdreis door bijna 6.000 jaar Egyptische geschiedenis. De verzameling is in 1630 begonnen, toen het eerste Egyptische werk werd gekocht. Sindsdien zijn de collecties steeds groter geworden. Als je het museum binnengaat, zul je gelijk grote sfinxen en sarcofagen van farao's tegenkomen. Maar daar blijft het zeker niet bij! Hier zijn ook mummies, 3 versies van het Egyptisch Dodenboek, een uit steen gehouwen tempel, schilderijen, koninklijke beeldhouwwerken, en een hele kamer vol Papyrusrollen te vinden.
